A WOMAN has been banned from buying alcohol in Nailsworth after complaints from residents and traders.

An anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) was placed on Hannah Stewart, aged 41, of Tetbury Lane, Nailsworth, at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Stewart will not be able to buy alcohol from her hometown and is not to behave in a way which may cause harassment, alarm or distress to any member of the public in the town.

Several residents had spoken to the police and town council about Stewart's behaviour and said they were concerned about the town's safety.

Police inspector Martina Lamden said: "We hope the result of the court case reassures the community that we take their reports of anti social behaviour extremely seriously.

"Whilst this Asbo gives the police a tool to manage the behaviour of one individual we will continue to work with the district and town council to look at long term strategies that could address any future issues.

"We consider ensuring people feel safe within their community a priority for the local policing team and I’m pleased to say that Nailsworth continues to be a low crime area.

"I would also take this opportunity to ask the community to continue calling us to report any concerns they may have so that we can work together to keep Nailsworth safe."
