Ladies flying the flag for small club

Minchinhampton Old Course Ladies Section is celebrating after four players from its membership came second to The Kendleshire in the Gloucestershire Ladies County Golf Association Nett Team Championship.

The event was held at Minchinhampton New Course on August 2 and the result is a milestone in the development of the section from just a handful of players to a growing and ever-improving set of enthusiastic lady golfers.

However, the section is still relatively small and it is a tribute to the spirit of the whole Minchinhampton Old Course membership that its various teams have worked so hard to improve their performance in external competitions and matches over recent years.

The Ladies Section is enjoying another very busy season. Major golfing events included a very successful Invitation Day in July, organised by the lady captain Ros Scott-Hodgetts, who with her guest, Carol Williams, won the first prize. In second place were Wendy Hammond and Pat Shotter, third pair were Mary Norman and Delia Mason and fourth were Gill Miles and Joyce Welsh.

The ladies entered five teams into the clubs Pro-Am event on August 3 and the winning team was that sponsored by RF Gardiner, including Sue Gardiner, Pam Gay & Judith Flint with their professional, Tracey Loveys.

The traditional putting and chipping coffee morning at the home of Judith Flint was hugely enjoyable and the lady captains Midsummer Candlelit Supper was another very successful fund-raising event. There have also been some very successful mixed social competitions including the Dawn Chorus on July 13.

The Alliance Team is having a good season, having exceeded last years total of points with three home matches still to play and the friendly matches have been well supported and enjoyed.

Congratulations to the following players who have represented the club in external competitions: County Foursomes Gill Miles and Denise Woods; Australian Spoons Judith Flint and Wendy Hammond; Coronation Foursomes Ros Scott-Hodgetts and Judith Flint; The National Club Captains Cup Eve Clements and Ros-Scott-Hodgetts; Daily Mail Foursomes Sue Gardiner and Anna Blackler; Mail on Sunday National Golf Club Classic Brenda ONeill, Mary Norman, Sue Gardiner, Anna Blackler.
