THE WOODCHESTER Mosaic replica has been put on the market and could soon join the original as part of Gloucestershire's history.
Those who have battled on behalf of the impressive mosaic are planning one last ditch attempt to secure it a Gloucestershire home.
The Orpheus Pavement, one of the most significant archaeological discoveries from Roman Britain, was painstakingly recreated from well over a million tiles by Wotten-under-Edge brothers Bob and John Woodward.
It is now up for sale and there are serious fears it could not only leave the county but even the country.
"It will be desperately sad if that happens," said Bob Woodward. "But we've had to face up to this situation for almost 20 years." "It's spent most of that time in storage and if we're not careful the replica will go down the same road as the original - it will never see the light of day.
