AN IMMACULATE conception has bewildered staff and visitors alike at a Gloucestershire abbey.
A baby fallow deer has been born at Prinknash Bird and Deer Park despite the fact its mother is kept fenced off from any stags.
The fawn was born on Friday evening much to the surprise of park staff and was named Frisky after its father.
"It's very amusing," said park director Philip Meigh. "We're not certain what happened. "They're saying it was an immaculate conception."
Mr Meigh has his own theory, however, and believes his stag, who is kept fenced away at the other end of the park with 15 female deer, had his eye on Frisky's mother, Daisy, and spurred on by his passion managed to clear the six foot fence that separated them.
Staff at the park have dubbed the stag Boris after wayward tennis star Boris Becker. "He must have been very frustrated," laughed Mr Meigh. "I think he likes the ladies - two herds had already given birth. "The poor chap must have been shattered."
