Nailsea 1st XI 1, Stroud Ladies 1st XI 4
A VERY bright start for the ladies who well and truly trounced Nailsea this weekend.
Stroud have met Nailsea many times over the last few years playing league games and, although this was a friendly fixture, all the Stroud players showed that they have taken their promotion seriously and have obviously been fitness training over the summer break.
Nailsea were virtually shell-shocked at the pace showed by Stroud.
Claire Crossthwaite (two), Sophie Whittaker and Helena Sherwood were all on the scoresheet with perfect goals.
Creative substitutions by this year's skipper Caron Spindler worked well and kept tiring legs fresh and fantastic umpiring by Stroud's Vicky Webb helped the game to flow.
On this form the ladies should hold their own in their first year in the Northern League, but, with some tough friendlies over the next few weeks, the run into the league season will not be an easy one.
