Suzy's on song

NAILSWORTH table-tennis star Suzy Robinson has started her new season with excellent performances at the Liverpool Grand Prix on August 25 and 26.

The 19-year-old reached the semi-final of the women's under-21's singles competition and also reached the last 16 of the women's open singles tournament.

Suzy qualified for the semi-finals after winning her group stage, the first-round and quarter-finals. She eventually lost to Berkshire's Gemma Chapman, who went on to win the competition.

A high class field entered the women's open tournament but Suzy played well to advance into the final 16. She started the tournament well with a runners-up place in her group then in the first round Suzy was victorious against the current Scottish number one.

But in the final 16 Suzy was beaten by the English number three seed Kubrat Owolabi.

Suzy will compete for Gloucestershire in a County match on September 15 and will then play in the two-day British Women's League.

The grand-prix will be the Claire Pengally tournament at Paignton at the end of September.
