Beware of meningitis

THIS week is Meningitis Awareness Week and to drive the message home the Stroud-based Meningitis Trust has launched an educational website and eye-catching symptom cards to hand out to pupils across the country.

The campaign was launched at Archway School on Tuesday in an effort to grab the attention of teenagers.

Meningitis continues to kill despite the introduction of a new vaccination programme against meningitis C.

There is still no protection against the deadly B strain of the feared brain disease.

The website, www.meningitis-schools.org.uk, is aimed at schools and will provide pupils and teachers with a better understanding of the disease and its symptoms.
