Old Cryptians 1st XV 39, Cainscross 1st XV 25
CAINSCROSS gave their Division One opponents a scare this weekend in a close game that could have gone either way.
Cryptians started strongly, scoring two tries without reply before Cainy began to get into the game with a Tagg penalty.
Cainy were always within a score of their opponents right until the end of the game, Bodge Elliott touching down and Tagg converting whilst a Cryptians player was in the sin-bin.
The Cainscross scrum was especially dominant in the second half pushing the home team back across their line allowing Nick Tagg to dive in and score, also adding the conversion.
Tagg kicked another three points and a 30 metre drive from the forwards almost resulted in Cainy taking the lead, the last pass not quite making it to hand.
Nick Tagg then finished off a virtuoso performance with a quickly taken tap penalty, conversion missed.
A late score for Cryptians meant the score didn't reflect the closeness of the game.
Cainscross 2nd XV 27, Glos Civil Service 2nd XV 7
CAINSCROSS United regained some pride this weekend with a win over Glos Civil Service.
After loaning two players to Service, Cainy were first on the scoresheet with a Matt Dougherty penalty.
This was followed by an unconverted try from Sam Mills after some excellent interplay with his brother Tom.
From the restart, Tom Mills then scored a try for himself, beating the cover defence to run in under the posts, Dougherty converting.
Further pressure on the Service line led to a try for skipper Mike Weaver, who broke from the base of the scrum to crash over, conversion missed.
Service came back strongly in the second half quickly scoring a converted try before Cainy regained their concentration.
