A BRIMSCOMBE student narrowly missed the full horror of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Centre.
Dan Walden, 18, was heading through a New York subway for a sightseeing trip to the top of the twin towers on Tuesday, September 11.
Suddenly the train stopped in the morning rush hour and passengers were told there was an emergency - the next thing he saw above ground was a huge hole in the side of one of the towers.
He witnessed the horrific events unfold in front of his eyes and when the first tower tumbled catastrophically to the ground, he ran for his life, as brother Edward explained.
"The train stopped and he got off to get a coffee," said Edward, 21. "He looked up and saw a hole in the World Trade Centre, then he saw it collapse.
"He said he just ran."
