HAVE-a-go hero Phil Bradley was beaten across the face with an iron bar after challenging two thugs who were breaking into a van.
Mr Bradley, 40, approached the two young men in Back Lane, Bisley on Sunday when he was taking his Rottweiler Ginny out for a late night stroll.
He spotted them breaking in to the van and asked them what they were doing.
As soon as the crooks realised the game was up, they fled empty handed but not before lashing out at Mr Bradley.
The brave hero suffered a cut above his eye and bruising which required medical attention.
Recalling the incident on Monday, Mr Bradley was remarkably calm.
"It was quite congenial to start with," he said.
And he added: "The way they were acting was suspicious. They were looking at a black van.
"I said "What are you doing?" and one just lashed out.
"I got a whack across the face and a graze on my head."
He said Ginny, who is three-years-old and fully-grown, took no notice of the crooks!
The pair, described as 16 to 18-years-old, sprinted off in to the night.
Both were wearing denim jeans and dark tops, one with a hood and trainers.
