FEARS over children's safety has lead to round-the-clock surveillance being mounted for young patients at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.
A 24-hour CCTV camera outside the children's ward will catch on camera everyone who leaves or enters the ward
The tightened security will make it virtually impossible for anyone to gain access without being seen.
The fixed camera is part of a £30,000 investment in security systems by Gloucestershire Royal Hospital to improve safety for the hospital's staff, patients and visitors.
The camera transmits a clear image of people entering and leaving the children's ward, allowing security staff to keep a close eye on all visitors and hospital staff.
Hospital spokesman John Richardson said: "Some children admitted to hospital could be at risk of abuse of further abuse and it is important to know who is visiting them."
Security has also been tightened throughout the hospital grounds with the installation of two new pan and tilt CCTV cameras.
And the upgrade of two existing cameras to colour monitors now provide clearer and more detailed pictures to security staff.
