Forest Green banking on FA Cup upset

FOREST Green Rovers and Macclesfield are shaping up for their FA Cup match next Saturday and it is difficult to nominate an underdog.

Macclesfield being a Third Division outfit, the description would normally be reserved for the Conference side Forest Green, but some of the Macclesfield supporters are not so sure.

As one said: "The way we are playing at the moment, Rovers must be favourite, but we lost again on Friday, 3-0 to Southend, and morale is poor. Our last win was on October 13 when we defeated Bristol Rovers and we are at present floundering near the bottom of the table."

Of course, everybody knows that cup games are something else. Apart from league status, another possible plus point for Macclesfield is that it will be the first game in charge for new manager David Moss, who takes over from caretaker manager Kevin Keen. We all know that sides often enjoy a honeymoon period under a new boss.

Rovers' manager Nigel Spink is playing things down but takes a lot of comfort from the way Rovers are playing at the moment. "Everyone is fit and we will be giving it a good go. The side is playing well and Alex Meechan is scoring goals and combining well with Kayode Odejayi. So we have two keen youngsters up front playing well and they can be very exciting."
