Jilly praises college

THE crucial part played by education in the economic wellbeing of any nation was stressed by Bisley writer Jilly Cooper at Stroud College's open day last week.

Opening the event on Thursday, Jilly praised recent developments at Stroud College and won friends amongst the teaching staff by leading a toast to their health.

She said she had just started researching a novel about a big school and was staggered by the punishing workload of teachers these days.

The open day was well attended by representatives of local industry and potential pupils, despite an accident which blocked the road for two hours.
