Surprise tests a success

DECEMBER'S crack down on drink driving continued with a high profile police exercise near Nailsworth on Boxing Day.

Between 1.30pm and 4pm eight police officers from the Stroud district stopped 400 cars on the A46.

A total of 12 drivers were given defective vehicle tickets and four road tax offences were identified.

Out of the 21 drivers given breath tests at the roadside only one showed positive.

A woman was taken to Stroud Police Station where a subsequent breath test proved her to be well under the legal limit.

Sgt Colin Ford said that the discrepancy had arisen due to the inaccuracy of the road side test.

Police in Stroud were pleased with the outcome of the operation which highlighted the success of the 'None for the Road' campaign running since the beginning of December.
