Hereford let off the hook

Forest Green Rovers 1, Hereford United 1

ROVERS made it six home draws in a row on Saturday when they let Hereford off the hook in the second half and conceded a sloppy goal.

The first half in particular produced a scrappy and dull game - the heavy and greasy pitch saw to that.

Forest Green took the lead in the 13th minute when Hereford keeper Matt Baker charged out to retrieve a long ball downfield into the box.

He slipped, allowing the ball to go over his head, and striker Alex Meechan seized on the ball but was brought down for what looked a fortunate penalty. Heggs' weak spot kick was easily blocked but right back Rob Cousins followed up to slot the ball into the net.

Both defences were generally comfortably in charge after this and further excitement was confined to Carl Heggs being booked after gesturing at a referee's assistant and skipper Mark Cooper similarly treated for dissent to the referee.

Meechan and Heggs had worked hard up front, but with very little support, looked unlikely to add to the scoreline.
