A GREAT treat is in store for Stroud audiences when HONK, the Ugly Duckling musical, flies in to the Studio Theatre Wycliffe College, Stonehouse next month.
This lively musical was an exuberant smash hit when it played in London's West End recently.
With all the ingredients for first rate entertainment - a heartwarming story, wonderful music, witty lyrics, spectacular staging - HONK, performed by Jill Woods Theatre Company's talented cast, is a production that appeals to adults and children alike.
Ugly (Alex Curry), our curiously gawky hero, does not resemble any of his newly-hatched sibling ducklings but nevertheless his mother Ida (Kayleigh Anger) warms to him. When she takes him for his first swimming lesson she is amazed to find he has very athletic aquatic talents.
Seen here by the swimming pool of Chestnut House Beauty Spa in Stroud are Ida, Ugly and the glamorous array of fish taking part in a dazzling "underwater sequence" in the production.
HONK is sponsored by the Stroud News & Journal and all the proceeds go to CLIC (Challenging Childhood Cancer and Leukaemia). Performances are from Monday - Saturday, February 11-16 at 7.30pm with a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets are on sale now from Stroud Tourist Information Office at Stroud Subscription Rooms, County Hairstyles in Nailsworth, The Crown Inn Minchinhampton, Whole Hearted in Stonehouse or from Jill Woods Theatre Company on 01453 882550.
