THE death of millions during the Holocaust will be commemorated in the Five Valleys at the end of the month.
Sunday, January 27 is Holocaust Memorial Day and is a time to remember the death of some six million Jews and ten million others deemed 'defectives' by the Nazis between 1933 and 1945.
The Rodborough Tabernacle is hosting a multi-faith service about the Holocaust and other acts of genocide in the 20th century.
Stroud MP David Drew and other civic leaders are expected to attend the service. Anyone who would like to attend this service is asked to contact the elders at the Tabernacle to let them know as soon as possible as space is limited on 01453 872446.
Stroud Football Poet Stuart Butler is also organising a memorial service at Gloucester's Brockworth School where he teaches history.
Poets Danny McCue and Adam Horovitz will be performing at the event along with Paul Southcott who will be playing a Jewish lament on his fiddle.
A traditional variety of apple tree from Gloucestershire will be planted as part of the event along with a memorial tablet to all victims of racism and fascism.
"The plan is we will plant another tree each year to eventually create an orchard of remembrance," said Mr Butler.
Stroud District Council, which organised a memorial service last year, has ruled out holding another this year.
