Gnomes snatched

THEY could not run away, or even walk. In fact some of them were even set in concrete -but that didn't stop thieves stealing Kathleen Meanwell's precious gnomes.

Mrs Meanwell of Aston View, Chalford was heartbroken this week after discovering 13 of the little sprites which she has collected for most of her life were missing.

She believes thieves struck either late on Friday night or in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Five were ripped out of their concrete settings, while another eight free-standing ones were snatched from the front garden.

Most of the collection of 45 gnomes had been given to her as presents.

"I don't know what I would do if I got my hands on the thieves," she said. Some of the gnomes had '2001' painted on them and all were coated in clear varnish.
