Mini Cooper off to Spain

A YOUNG road racer is turning major team bosses' heads already this year at the age of just 14.

Next Monday Daniel Cooper will be travelling to Cartejena in bike-mad Spain for practice in three days of sunshine.

He has been invited to join the Tech 2000 Team and a number of its rising stars in the ACU Academy.

"It is hoped we will be able to experiment with suspension settings and general set-up variations as well as getting a good practice session over the 3 days," said his father John, who runs the CH Cooper & Son building firm at Burleigh Hill, Brimscombe.

And two weeks ago, Enzo DiClemente, boss of the DiEnzo Ducati world superbike and supersports teams, took a look at Daniel and invited him to practice with the team at the end of February, again in Spain. He also sold him Paul Brown's Honda CBR 600 which he rode to success in the British Championship last year.

Daniel, who attends Kingshill School, Cirencester will contest the North Glos Road Racing Championship this season and is looking forward to learning some new circuits and the chance to impress.

As the News & Journal reported last year, he turned in some excellent performances in mini moto and on his 1996 Honda RS 125.

That merited him an invitation to ride under the watchful eye of Grand Prix star Jeremy McWilliams and top British superbike runner Sean Emmett before Christmas at a Red Bull-supported academy session.

Although team boss Robin Appleyard did not sign up Daniel, he told him he would be keeping an eye on him this season. For more information on Daniel's season, log on to www.ferretracing.co.uk
