A magic carpet

GALES may be howling and rivers overflowing throughout the country but as far as mother nature is concerned spring is just around the corner.

This stunning display of Snowdrops have carpeted the wooded banks of Painswick's Rococo Gardens despite the adverse weather conditions.

This year the flowers have come shooting up earlier than expected.

"I've never seen them come on so fast. The display is now at its best," said Paul Moir, director of the garden.

And he added: "With the mild autumn we thought the snowdrops would be up by the New Year but then we had those cold, dry weeks which stopped the flowers growing. Suddenly there they are, looking magnificent."
