International call for Stroud duo

Stroud basketball stars Andrew Lamb and Vicky Lister have both recently received call-ups to the England squads.

Andrew Lamb, a 14-year-old student at Wycliffe College in Stonehouse, was invited to join the England under-15 squad at Millfield and represented his country in a friendly match against the Welsh under-16 team.

As a member of the England squad he will be taking part in future squad sessions in preparation for the European Championships later this year. Andrew is an exceptionally busy basketball player: apart from his newly acquired England duties.

The attacker is captain of Wycliffe's unbeaten under-15 team and plays at under-19 level for both school and club.

Fifteen-year-old Vicky, a student at the Girls' High School, has, after many arduous weekends at England training camps, been selected to play for the England under-16 team in a full international against Scotland on Friday, February 15.

This is just recognition of her skills and determination to succeed. Her attitude is a superb example for all those around her.

Both players have been playing basketball in Stonehouse for many years. They started as youngsters with the Stonehouse Stars and are currently playing for Team Gloster teams in national competitions.

Andrew is playing regularly with Gloster Fire while Vicky is top scorer for the girls' team, the Gloster Storm.

Richard Pearse has been a coach for both players since they were about 11-years-old and he is delighted with the news of their call-ups. He said: "This is a wonderful achievement they have both worked really, really hard on all aspects of their game and I am really proud of them both."
