A GROUNDBREAKING dance company, whose internationally recognised choreographer has won multiple awards, is coming to the Everyman, Cheltenham for one night only on Tuesday, February 26 and The Stroud News & Journal has three pairs of tickets to give away.
Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company is bringing Phantasmaton - a brand new show - to the Everyman. It is inspired by the way technology and the hectic lifestyle of the 21st Century changes our world. The company's aim is to capture on stage all the fluidity and excitement of urban life.
Phantasmaton is accompanied by music from the delightfully named Jocelyn Pook, who composed the music for the late Stanley Kubrick's last film Eyes Wide Shut, starring Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, and is danced in front of a landscape of pulsating digital images.
Shobana Jeyasingh was born in Madras and lives in London. Her dual British and Indian cultural identities are strongly reflected in her choreography, although her starting point is the Indian classical dance form Bharata Natyam.
She has won two Time Out Dance Awards, a London Dance and Performance Award, three Digital Dance Awards and an MBE in 1995. Her company as a whole has also won a prestigious Prudential Award for the Arts.
