CIVIC leaders in Stroud and Rodborough are spearheading a campaign to save a threatened bus service.
Bus operators Stagecoach have threatened to pull the plug on the popular number 8/8a circular route which covers the town centre and surrounding areas.
Now Stroud Town Council and Rodborough Parish Council have joined the fight to save the service.
Stroud's Cllr Sheila Booth has launched a petition calling for a reprieve for the route and has urged bus users to lobby Stagecoach, Gloucestershire County Council and MP David Drew.
"The Government pays lip service to sustainable transport and not using cars but people are pushed into their cars through an inadequate bus service," she said. Rodborough Parish Council has organised two public meetings to discuss the buses next week.
The first will be held at Gastrells School at 7pm on Thursday, March 14 with another at the Endowed Schools off Walkley Hill at 7pm on Friday, March 15.
