Women welcome

WOMEN were allowed into the inner sanctum of a social club this week after more than 50 years of a men only rule.

Females have always been banned from the members only bar at Minchinhampton's Cotswold Club.

But the doors have now been flung open to include the fairer sex after the club's committee voted to allow them in.

Simple economics drove the committee to raise the idea at the club's annual general meeting last month and the historic decision was made with a vote of ten to one.

The club was founded in 1947 as a meeting place for men, including many former servicemen.

In the past, female guests could be signed in by members to drink at the main bar but the smaller members bar has until now been out of bounds.
