A FORMER soldier has spoken of his anger and disbelief that motorists drove around the body of the victim of a fatal road accident.
Colin Hutchison put his nine years experience in the military into action straight away when he saw Andrew Patrick Harcom lying on the road at Beeches Green, Stroud.
As the News & Journal reported last week Mr Harcom died following a collision with a bus on the A46 at Beeches Green on Tuesday, March 26.
Stopping the traffic with his car, Mr Hutchison rushed to Mr Harcom's aid and urged other motorists to stop the traffic and help him out.
He was returning home to Thrupp after visiting his pregnant partner Debbie Stevens at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where she later gave birth to their twin boys, Oliver and James.
"I stopped the car to make a chicane because of the traffic passing by," said Mr Hutchison.
"It was just chaos - people were panicking and standing there not doing anything.
"I got hold of a couple of blokes to control the traffic."
Many motorists ignored the scene, said Mr Hutchison. "People were just thinking 'I just want to get from here to there' and were more interested in driving round him. "No one did anything, he was just lying in the road."
