Sports car smash driver killed

THE driver of a Lotus sports car was killed after he crashed his vehicle on the A419 Stroud to Cirencester road.

He smashed into a Mitsubishi Gallant driven by a Stroud man before colliding with a Vauxhall panel van from Bristol.

The 29-year-old man from the Swindon area lost control of the sports car on a corner near the Coates turning as he was heading towards Cirencester shortly before 12 noon on Wednesday, April 3. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor.

The passenger in the Mitsubishi was trapped in the car and had to be cut free before being airlifted to Bristol's Frenchay Hospital with serious chest injuries.

The driver was rushed to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

Both driver and passenger were in a stable condition by the following morning.

The panel van driver was uninjured in the accident.

The road remained closed between Cirencester and the Sapperton turning until 7pm that evening.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to call PC Wayne Usher at Cirencester Traffic Police on 0845 0901234.
