Homes plan for carpark

HOMES are set to be built on an unofficial travellers' site which was recently left strewn with heaps of rubbish.

Planners have agreed to allow Lloydd-Jardine plc to build 19 homes and refurbish grade II listed buildings at the former Redlers carpark at Dudbridge.

Neighbours in Gladfield Gardens and Gladfield Terrace were furious with travellers who abandoned the site, leaving piles of rubbish just yards from their front doors in March.

They were angry that the owners of the site had not cleared it up - the mess has since been cleared away, leaving Lloydd-Jardine of Cirencester now free to develop the site.

Stroud District Council development control committee resolved not to refuse the planning application, subject to contributions for local amenities.

Lloydd-Jardine must come up with just over £22,000 towards local education, £30,000 for play facilities and cash for bus service improvements which has still to be negotiated to win full planning permission.
