A STROUD DJ achieved country-wide fame at the weekend when his new CD made its way into more than a million households.
A track by Chris Handbury, 26, from Ebley, appeared on an album given out with Saturday's Daily Star newspaper.
Chris, whose DJ name is Beckford Silk, was asked to contribute to the CD after sending the paper a demo - recorded in his £10,000 home-built studio.
He said: "The feeling of being chosen is indescribable. I couldn't put words to it.
"One minute I was sitting there thinking, what should I do with this demo? - the next I was in a national newspaper.
"This is recognition at last," he added.
Chris, who attended Archway School, has been a DJ for ten years. He used to have a Friday night residency at Jo-Jos, and has played sets at the Maltings and the Cross in Nailsworth.
Until 1999 his band Weird Fish performed regularly in local pubs sucsh as the Shunters and Queen Victoria.
Chris would love to give up his day job as a ceramic tiler to become a full-time DJ.
"I'm hoping this CD will be my big break," he said.
In the last few months Chris has been working flat out on his music and had to put a note on the studio door to remind himself to take the occasional break.
A single by Beckford Silk, including the track that appeared on the Daily Star's CD, is available from Kane's Record Shop, Kendrick Street, Stroud.
