Boots hit by raiders

MASKED raiders spilled handfuls of coins on the floor as they escaped from a smash and grab burglary on a high street store.

They took around £100 and fistfuls of gift vouchers from tills in Boot's Stroud store late on Monday night and ran off in to the night before police were alerted.

On Tuesday morning a police forensic team combed the shop for clues left behind by the three burglars.

Store manager Nick Freeman said trio of young men were caught on closed circuit television but they covered their faces to avoid detection. They smashed a window in a front door, jemmied open the tills, grabbed what they could and dashed off.

"The whole thing took less than a minute," he said.

Sgt Mick McDermid of Stroud police said the raid happened at about 10.45pm. He said two young men were seen hanging around near Boot's earlier on. Anyone who can help police track down the culprits should call 0845 090 1234.
