TEENAGE con man Craig Imrie who cheated 235 people into sponsoring him for a half marathon he never ran has been given a second chance by magistrates at Stroud, despite breaching his probation conditions.
Heroin addict Imrie, 18, called his victims 'suckers' after duping them into giving him money by telling them he was running the 13.1 mile Stroud half marathon to raise funds for local hospital League of Friends.
On April 29 this year Stroud Magistrates ordered that Imrie should complete a 24 month community rehabilitation order coupled with a 12 month residency at the Phoenix Centre in London.
Imrie lasted just over a month in London before he broke the drug rehabilitation centre's residency conditions by sniffing butane.
Back in court last Friday magistrates were told the Phoenix Centre in London would have Imrie back despite the breach but that no one from the probation service was available to take him there that day.
Imrie also faced charges of assault and actual bodily harm from earlier this year.
Remanded in custody over the weekend Imrie of Mathews Way, Paganhill reappeared in court on Monday and was told he would be given a second chance. He was made the subject of a new two year drug testing and treatment order at the Phoenix Centre.
