Horsley: "The club has lost a valued member"

FOREST Green Rovers football club are in mourning following the unexpected death of their vice chair Carol Embrey on Thursday June 27.

Carol, who was 55-years-old, joined the club as an associate director four years ago upon the clubs entry into the Nationwide Conference.

Carol and her family had run a petrol filling station in Wiltshire before moving recently from Calne to Weston-Super-Mare after selling their interest in the business.

She was instrumental in concentrating on several of Rovers aims for the future.

One of these included the setting up of the clubs college partnership schemes, to develop the potential of young players.

She also undertook a leading role with regards to the marketing strategy of the club and the Lawnside Health and Fitness Suite.

Being admired by club members for her drive and enthusiasm, she took over second in command at the club two years ago and this sudden loss is a body blow to everyone at the club as it prepares for its fifth season in top flight football.

Chairman Trevor Horsley summed up the feeling within the club.

"This is devastating news," he said. "First and foremost, to her husband Keith and her children David and Tracey, we extend our most heartfelt sympathies.

"Within the club Carol was admired and loved by all that knew her. Everyone will be deeply shocked as they learn of her passing and unfortunately the club has lost a valued member of the board who had so much to offer."

The funeral service will be held this Saturday, July 6 at St Georges Church at 11.30am in Nailsworth followed by cremation at Westerleigh Crematorium.

The club has announced that anybody can park in the College car park by the ground and there will be a bus laid on to the service at 10.50am.
