Children are on song

A SPECTACULAR evening of song and art involving 120 children from four primary schools took place at the Rococo Gardens in Painswick on Thursday.

The children were from Years 3 to 6 of the Woolpack cluster of schools - Cranham, The Croft, Miserden and Sheepscombe.

Before an audience of parents and members of the public, the children performed a number of original songs that they had written themselves with the help of Norma Mills of Pumpkin Music together with a selection of traditional folk songs taken from around the Stroud area.

There was also an exhibition of artwork produced by the children after working with artists from Artspace in Stroud on the overall theme of Our Environment.

"It was a very good evening and we would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved in the project," said Stan Giles, head of Sheepscombe School.

He added that staff at the schools had been overwhelmed by the level of support and goodwill from local professionals prepared to be involved in the project.

"They were almost as enthusiastic as the children," he said.

A CD of the songs performed during the evening, Woolpack Folk, is available from each of the schools and also from the Rococo Gardens.
