Man attacked after hitching

A MAN has been attacked after accepting a lift during a walk home.

The 51-year-old was walking home to Stroud from Berkeley along the A38 when he was offered a lift by two men in a dark-coloured hatchback at 11.30pm on Saturday.

As soon as the man got into the car, the driver and passenger began to attack him.

The victim was then driven at speed through Dursley to Cam Peak where he was taken out the car and attacked again.

He was then put back into the vehicle and driven to Uley where he was thrown out.

The man, who rang police from a phone box in Woodstock Terrace, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment for cuts and bruises.

The motive for the attack is not known. All the assailants stole were cigarettes from their victim.

They are described as white males aged 20-30. One had short hair and a slight Irish accent. The other had collarbone-length hair. Both are around 5ft 8in tall.

Anyone who may have seen the victim after the attack or has any other information should contact police on 0845 090 1234 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
