Aberystwth 0, Forest Green Rovers 1
A GOAL by striker Alex Meechan gave Rovers their first pre-season season win away at Aberystwth last Saturday.
Meechan, who has not hit the net since for four months, was on target in the 40th minute. A corner was played into the box and the former Bristol City forward volleyed the ball into the net past Aberystwth keeper Mike Kinsella.
Rovers manager Nigel Spink gave appearances to a number of his squads younger players and they were given a good test against the League of Wales outfit.
In the first half, Rovers midfielder Gary Owers had a shot saved well by Kinsella then later Meechan gave Rovers the lead five minutes before half-time.
Matthew Coupe, who was playing against his former side, gave another good performance in Rovers defence.
Spink made many changes as he experimented with his line-up and team tactics.
Rovers will continue their build up to the new Nationwide Conference season when they travel to Mangotsfield United tonight (July 31).
United drew 3-3 with Bristol City reserves last week and one player to watch out for will be their prolific forward David Seal.
Former Rovers midfielder Steve Campbell will also line-up for Andy Blacks side. The match at Cossham Street kicks-off at 7.45pm.
And on Saturday (August 3), third division side Bristol Rovers will be the visitors to The Lawn.
Rovers, who beat Premiership side West Bromwich Albion 3-2 on Monday evening, are now managed by Ray Graydon and he will bring a number of his new signings.
They will include former Swindon Town attacker Giuliano Grazioli, who scored a brace of goals against the Baggies, and Paul Tait who was signed from Crewe Alexandra.
