Beer mats with a message

PUB-GOERS in Stroud are to get a reminder to be on their best behaviour every time they reach for their drinks.

Beer mats advertising the Behave Or be Banned in Stroud (BOBS) scheme are being given out to more than a dozen pubs in the town to raise awareness of the initiative.

Stroud police received £900 from the Portman Group to produce the beer mats and they are now set to become a familiar sight on pub tables and bars.

The BOBS scheme aims to reduce alcohol related crime and anti-social behaviour in Stroud by banning offenders who cause trouble from all the pubs, clubs and off-licences involved.

Chief Inspector Mark Organ, of Stroud police, said: "Since BOBS was launched in 1999 there has been a marked reduction in trouble at licensed premises.

"For the small minority of trouble makers in Stroud the threat of being unable to drink in the town for up to a year can be just as great a deterrent as a prison sentence."
