Dad saves daughter

A MUM whose daughter fell into Stratford Park lake has called for more stringent safety measures.

Sharon Nash, 26, of Gibson Close, Stroud watched in horror as nine-year-old Leanne disappeared under water after falling in the lake on Monday at 6.30pm.

Leanne who is only just learning to swim slipped as she tried to walk across by the waterfall.

Leanne's Dad, Jonathan ran to the rescue and jumped in fully clothed to save his daughter. Mrs Nash said: "She went right under the water."

"I want to let people know how dangerous it is, said Mrs Nash. "If I had been on my own I wouldn't have known what to do.

"Her Dad's a hero."

Mrs Nash has called for a fence to be installed around the lake and more life buoys available.

But Stroud District Council's George Damsell, acting environmental contracts manager, said there is already one buoy on each side of the lake.

The council promised to investigate the incident.
