Brave mum to trek for funds

A YOUNG mum who suffered horrific injuries to both her legs after cheating death in a car accident is setting off on an arduous charity walk across Asia.

Sue McAsey 28, from Woodchester suffered fractures to both legs, a fractured pelvis and massive blood loss and had to be resuscitated twice after a collision on the A46 near Painswick three years ago.

Her life was saved by quick thinking paramedics and consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Mr Mark Whittaker from Rodborough who was driving past at the time.

Now Sue is preparing for the trek across Asia which starts on September 15. She will travel through the Sabah region of Borneo to raise money for the Children Today charity.

Sue bravely overcame numerous operations after the crash and had her final operation this year.

"I need to raise £2,500 so any sponsorship would be gratefully appreciated, Sue told the SNJ on Tuesday.

"The charity helps provide grants and funding for specially designed equipment for disabled children and the money that I hope to raise would go to children in the Stroud area," she said

The nine day challenge will see Sue trek Mount Kinabalu, cycle the crocker range, white water raft down the Padas River and scuba dive in the Pacific Ocean.

"I have been training at the Pagent Suite at Stonehouse Court Hotel and feel at my strongest since the accident but it will be a tremendous and exciting challenge for me," she said.

Anyone interested in sponsoring Sue can send a cheque made payable to Children Today to the SNJ offices at 6 Lansdown, Stroud.
