Glos County League Taverners 4, Viney 0
Tavs opened their debut season in the County League with an emphatic victory over forest side Viney.
The home side included Nathan Harmer in goal and Tom Burridge in midfield for their first team league debuts.
The opening exchanges were fairly even but Tavs striker Darren Peachey twisted his ankle as early as the fifth minute.
He attempted to carry on before being withdrawn on 20 minutes for Nick Stratford.
Around this time Tavs began to take control with Andy Griffiths in particular causing the visitors problems.
Indeed it was Griffiths who put the home side in front on 25 minutes with a low drive from 20 yards.
Stratford then did brilliantly to lob the keeper from an acute angle only to hit the far upright.
Twice in the next five minutes Stratford was played in, unluckily hitting the woodwork and then shooting tamely at the keeper.
Viney responded with their only chance of the game when they fired over from a free kick five minutes before the break.
The second period belonged to the home side as they took complete control. The second goal arrived on the hour when Stratfords good header from Danny Moores corner could only be palmed to the feet of Dave Bedwell who made no mistake from two yards.
Stratford then got his just rewards five minutes later when he drove in low giving the keeper no chance.
Tom Burridge then capped a good debut breaking clear from midfield and beating the keeper to the ball to score from the corner of the box.
Sub Keith Grant had already been introduced and Paul Jennings followed to complete a good afternoons work from the entire squad.
This Saturday Tavs entertain Bristol side DRG Stapleton for what is sure to be a much more difficult encounter. KO 2.30 pm
