Marling School firsts hit ten tries in tremendous cup win

Daily Mail Cup - Marling School 71 Bishops Cleeve 0

A TREMENDOUS performance by Marling School's first team made sure that they progressed into the next round of the Daily Mail school's rugby cup.

The side, who are coached by Mark Nicholson, touched down a number of ten tries against their Cheltenham based opponents.

An excellent kick-off soon led to a pick and drive which culminated in a try for Year 12 James Pritchard, captain Will Kingzett converted to bring the score to 7-0 within minutes.

This was an ideal start for Marling who, above all, were keen to impress.

One could now think that a team as capable as Cleeve could soon make a passionate comeback, unfortunately for them this was not the case.

Wonderful ball handling skills were superbly finished with a Sam Wyatt try converted, again, by Will Kingzett.

Wyatt again took advantage of a scoring opportunity with a pick and a drive, bringing the score to 19-0.

Things were looking rather rosy for Marling, however Cleeve were not that ready to give up.

They had accepted the fact that they were not going to win but they decided to at least make Marling work for the points.

Once the score had reached 43-0 with four tries, two from Luke Dando, one from Chris Davis and another from a powerful Chris Windley.

The captain decided to make his physical prowess obvious with an amazing individual try which he converted.

Dando shone yet again with a try, granting him his hat-trick, followed by a second try for Chris Davis, bringing the score to 64-0.

You would have thought that was all for the Marling boys who had more than proven themselves worthy for the cup, but after a good drive one of the Hawking brothers managed to get the ball down.

This was a wonderful victory for a team with massive potential.

SNJ photographer Mark Watkins was taking pictures of the match and he said: "Never before have I been able to capture so many tries during one match of rugby."

This statement obviously shows how overpowering and talented the Marling team were on the day.
