Kettering clash is a 'must win' for Rovers

TWO defeats in the past seven days has left Colin Addison's Forest Green Rovers rooted to the bottom of the Nationwide Conference table.

Rovers' run of bad form continued when they succumbed to a 3-0 defeat at home against Stevenage Borough last Tuesday.

But the scoreline was not a fair one because the visitors scored their second and third goals in the last five minutes of the match.

On Saturday, Rovers let a 2-1 lead at the break slip against Nuneaton Borough, who scored twice to take a 3-2 win.

MARTIN Foster was red carded for a professional foul as Rovers went down to a three goal defeat.

The visitors took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Sam McMahon scored with a tremendous free-kick from about 25 yards.

Rovers' strikers Kayode Odejayi and Carl Heggs had half chances to score but the result was eventually wrapped up on 85 minutes.

Foster aimed to head the ball back to keeper Steve Perrin but there was not enough power on the header to reach Rovers number one.

Matt Fisher ran through on goal and in an attempt to make up for the mistake, Foster brought him down.

Rovers' captain was shown the red card and Jason Goodliffe stepped up to smash the ball into the top of the net.

Kirk Jackson then ran through and converted to finish the scoring in the last minute.

DESPITE going into the break 2-1 up Rovers were unable to secure the three points.

An own goal by Adam Cooper and a Neil Grayson penalty had given Rovers a 2-1 lead but goals from Craig Woodley and John Turner gave Nuneaton the win.

Gary Jones opened the scoring in the 13th minute but Rovers hit back.

However, a strong second-half performance by Nuneaton made sure they took the points. This Saturday (September 28), Rovers will host Kettering at the Lawn, kick-off 3pm.
