Evans' goals sets up cup clash with Taverners

GFA Trophy Preliminary Round Cadbury Heath 1, Shortwood United 3

THIS was never going to be just another cup clash with the prize a first ever clash with Nailsworth rivals Taverners.

And how Shortwood made certain of this in emphatic and comfortable fashion.

Rich Evans' third consecutive brace and Franny King's fizzing drive gave Shortwood the tie the whole of Nailsworth has been clamouring for.

"Our reserve team have played Taverners many times but this will be the first time our first team have met them and we are looking forward to it" said secretary Mark Webb.

"It will be a massive clash.

"Taverners are a well drilled side under Dale Russell. We will start as favourites but it is a potential banana skin for us" added Webb.

Shortwood travel to Gloucester United tonight (7.30pm) and are on the road again on Saturday when they travel to Highworth Town.

United have signed Mike Beckingham from Forest Green Rovers' academy.
