GLOUCESTERSHIRE County Cricket Club announced on September 27 that they will not be offering all rounder Jeremy Snape a contract for the 2003 season.
A spokesman said: "This has been a difficult decision about a player who has performed very well for GCCC and achieved a lot of success in the four years he has been with us.
"However, his relationship with the cricket management over the past 18 months has been very poor and has reached the stage where we believe it is unlikely to improve.
"Further, competition for places in the middle order and lower middle order will be fierce next year and we do want to give every chance to a number of young all-rounders with considerable potential.
"We therefore feel that opportunities for Jeremy Snape, particularly in the four day game, could well be limited and, accordingly, cannot justify paying the sort of salary he would be entitled to.
"He has developed and improved his game a great deal during his time with GCCC and we wish him every success in the future."
England all rounder Snape said: "I am shocked and stunned by today's news. I was looking forward to playing the rest of my career with Gloucestershire so it's obviously very disappointing.
"I look back on the last four years with wonderful memories of the team success and the great friendships which I will keep for many years to come.
"My immediate priority is to try and secure a contract with another club. Once I have done this and the news has sunk in I may be in a position to reflect further."
