FOREST Green Rovers will be hoping the man who played his part in FA Cup history will guide Rovers to an expected victory, when Ryman Premier League basement boys Ford United come to The Lawn in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round on Saturday, kick-off 3pm. Rovers boss Colin Addison was the Hereford United player/manager when Ronnie Radford's extra time winner against Newcastle 30 years ago gave the Bulls one of the greatest FA Cup shocks in the folklore of the world's most famous cup competition. Rovers have themselves enjoyed their own dizzy heights of cup success. Rovers' best performance in the FA Cup was a second round exit to Torquay United in November 1999. Since then they have made it to the first round proper on two occasions. And who can forget last season's exit to Macclesfield Town, in a record breaking 23 penalty shoot-out.
Addison's side will be firm favourites to scoop the £20,000 bounty against a Ford United side that have made a horror start to life in the Premier Division and are currently second from bottom in the Ryman Premier League after gaining promotion last season. But they have a good cup pedigree.
Struggling with gates of less than 100 the Essex side have recently appointed Craig Edwards as their new supremo.
However, the Motormen could be a danger having reached the first round proper, going down to Preston North End in front of more than 10,000 fans at Deepdale in 1999.
Defender Darren Jones will be unavailable for this week's cup match because Bristol City boss Danny Wilson does not want him cup-tied.
Rovers have several injured players who are likely to return to the squad including striker Alex Meechan who has been suffering from a hamstring injury.
Club captain Martin Foster could also return after a one match suspension.
Midfielders Simon Futcher and Alan McLoughlin could also return to the squad as could defender Lee Russell although all three will be subject to late fitness tests.
