Celebrating a decade of song

A CHOIR which has raised more than £75,000 for charitable causes is celebrating a decade of singing.

The Stuart Singers - from Minchinhampton - were formed in 1992 by Jerry and Sheila Palmer, who had moved to the area from Northampton and wanted to start a choir.

As a result of the couple's enthusiasm, the mixed voice choir has gone from strength to strength and currently boasts 62 regular singers, together with more than 162 associate members.

During 10 years of singing, the Stuart Singers have raised vital funds for needy charities such as the Gloucestershire arthritis trust and cystic fibrosis.

Their musical talents offer something for everyone as secretary and choir member Sheila explained: "We cover a broad range of musical tastes; from Beethoven to the Beatles."

With Christmas fast approaching, the Stuart Singers are gearing up for a busy December schedule.

"We are staging a concert at Holy Trinity Church Minchinhampton and will also be singing at Gloucester Cathedral and Cheltenham fire station for the fire service benevolent fund, so it will certainly be a busy time," said Sheila.

The Stuart singers are looking to increase their numbers and would particularly like to speak to any male tenors or bass vocalists.

"We would be delighted to see any new members joining us and could certainly do with more male voices in our choir," said Sheila.

For further information about becoming a member of the Stuart Singers or for details on forthcoming concerts contact Sheila on 01453 883146.
