Youth ban on rockers' gig

IN SUPPORT of grey power, Nailsworth-based band Loose Covers have banned under 25 years olds from their gigs.

"We're mostly made up of ageing rockers and we think that Dads who really want to dance don't want their children and their friends to be traumatised by what they're doing", says band spokesman Alan Denbigh speaking before their annual Christmas gig.

Led by ex-mayor of Nailsworth, Cllr John Nicholson, the band's combined ages start to rival the Rolling Stones. The seven piece play a selection of hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

"We do stray into the 90s and even beyond - mainly if there's been a re-release", says Denbigh. "If you're a closet Radio 2 listener and you want your secret kept safe, this is the place for you."

John's wife Sue fronts the band with friend Sue Webb. The two have a powerful range providing anything from Fields of Gold to I Got the Music In Me, and as Sue Nicholson - who recently denied cosmetic surgery rumours - says: "It's something for the Dads!"

The band's instrumentation includes some classic makes - a Hammond organ, Fender guitars and a Rickenbacker bass: "Mature music played on classic instruments by vintage players" says Denbigh.

The band's annual gig takes place on Friday, December 13 at the Comrades Club in Nailsworth More information : Alan Denbigh 01453 834874 evenings 01453 834350 The Other Cottage Shortwood Nailsworth, Glos Email : info@telework.org.uk
