Classical music treat

ST. LAURENCE'S Church in Stroud is again set to host an evening of exquisite candle-lit classical music played by the Vivaldi Camerata, which features locally-born cellist Christopher Allan.

The Vivaldi Camerata, who played to great success at the same venue last year, was formed in 2001 by some of the finest chamber musicians and soloists in the country: comprising members of the Caractacus, Almira and Tippett quartets as well as players who appear regularly with orchestras such as the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Welsh and Scottish Orchestras, the London Mozart Players and the English Chamber Orchestra.

They are: violinists David Le Page and Catherine Leech, viola player David Aspin, cellist Christopher Allan, double bassist David Ayre and oboe player Jane Saunders.

All the players have studied at prestigious musical establishments in Great Britain - including the Royal College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Birmingham Conservatoire, and the Yehudi Menuhin School.

They have subsequently been in great demand as recording artists, teachers and performers in this country and all over the world.

The programme will include the Corelli Christmas Concerto, the Boccherini Cello Concerto (soloist Christopher Allan), the Marcello Oboe Concerto (soloist Jane Saunders) and Winter from the Four Seasons (soloist David Le Page).

The concert takes place at Saint Laurence's Church at 7.30pm on Saturday, December 14 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Moonflower or on the door. Wine and refreshments will be available during the interval.
