Solstice celebration

CATALYST Collective, Stroud's campaigning live music and dance activists, have a new venue for their next gig this weekend.

Having run a monthly night at The Space for nearly a year, they are moving to the Trinity Rooms, near to Stroud Hospital, for their forthcoming, solstice-celebrating show on Saturday.

Playing live this time are Dynamix - a local band who formed through the Painswick Inn Project's music course - and Brighton-based dance musician Cakeboy.

"We're looking to put on regular gigs with local bands plus bigger names from Bristol or Brighton," said collective spokesman John Mayford. "We're looking for local bands who want to play. Anyone interested can send us a demo to Flat 11, Slad Mills, Slad Road , Glos GL5 1QU."

Cakeboy has become a rising star of the Brighton dance scene since his residency at Brighton's Experiments club; he has supported Bentley Rhythmn Ace, Shut Up and Dance and Grooverider, among others.

"Apparently he got his name from his habit of throwing cake at the audience - a case of let them eat Cakeboy, I guess," added John. "He's worked a lot with the new VJ scene that came out of the Groovie Movie phenomenon. It should be an exciting night."

The gig starts at 7.30pm on Saturday, December 21. Tickets cost £4 in advance and £5 on the door and are available from Trading Post and Kane's Records.
