ELVIS Presley shocked fans by making a surprise comeback at Stroud's Golden Fleece before Christmas, proving that the King really does live.
He took to the stage in a dazzling white jumpsuit and cape, complete with rhinestones and a gold belt.
An appreciative audience turned up to honour the icon, many sporting their own interpretation of the great man's distinctive fashion sense.
One fan even wore a home-made cardboard quiff and a toilet seat necklace in homage to the King's expertly staged death.
Elvis looked remarkably good for a man who will be celebrating his 68th birthday in January and had lost a lot of weight since those decadent days in Vegas.
In an exclusive interview with the News & Journal he explained his apparent immortality.
"Music is the elixir of life," he said. "My music is timeless and shall live forever."
Asked why he had chosen a Stroud pub for his come back when he could have packed out any venue in the world he said: "They tracked me down and here I am."
"I don't want to over sell myself and it's always a pleasure to play to a small crowd, it brings you closer to your fans."
The King remained tight-lipped on his whereabouts over the past couple of decades, but he ruled out living in a B52 bomber on the moon or hiding out in a Tibetan monastery.
"I couldn't possibly say where I've been or what I've been doing," he said.
"That's a secret and I don't think Priscilla would appreciate it." When it came to dieting tips the King said burgers and deep-fried peanut butter sandwiches were fine in moderation but warned fans to beware of binges.
He said: "Those things will be the death of me."
