Exciting New Year in prospect at Archway Centre

IF YOU are worried about England's cricket form in the Ashes series or the exit of our soccer team at the quarter-final stage of this summer's World Cup or require relaxation after stressing over British sport, there is no longer any need to fret as the future of sport is safe with Archway Sports Centre.

In recent months the centre has worked hard to increase awareness of sport, while ensuring that it's activities are made accessible to the local Stroud community. Current partnerships and relationships have been strengthened, while new ties have been made with various sports and leisure organisations.

The existing bond with Cheltenham Town FC's football in the community scheme has been strengthened, with the centre aiming to become the Stroud base for the Division Two club.

Both parties are already providing soccer sessions for youngsters and aim to offer greater accessibility for local children. It's time to keep your eyes peeled for upcoming activities.

Work with Active Sport has ensured the future of English cricket is bright. Sessions aimed at local youngster are to start in the New Year, with the purpose of introducing and developing the game in Stroud and Gloucestershire.

Track and field activities and facilities are the main topic with the highly successful Stroud Athletics Club. The club's increasing membership and support has enabled many developments with the junior section, while also enhancing the opportunity of the Archway site becoming an athletics facility to boast about.

The introduction of basketball, baseball and rugby sessions in the summer months and ongoing yoga sessions illustrates the vast range of activities on offer at the centre.

James Jeffery, centre manager, said: "We are currently in an exciting period at the centre. The connections made are creating great opportunities for youngsters, helping make a range of activities easily accessible.

"The work with Cheltenham Town's football in the community has provided quality coaching for youngsters, while also benefiting the centre by being associated with such a successful scheme.

Stroud Athletics Club has provided an opportunity to expand and improve our facilities, while again associating the centre with success.

These activities accompany the baseball, basketball, cricket, rugby and dance sessions that illustrate our desire to become a key developer of sport and leisure in Stroud and surrounding areas."

With the opportunity to hire the sports hall, dance studio or Jack Russell Lounge accompanying the range of equipment offered in the health and fitness suite, the sport and leisure opportunities at the Archway Sports Centre are endless.

Support the activities and help the centre begin the development of sport and leisure in the Stroud community.
