Promise of excitement - Acclaimed pianist set to wow Stroud

INTERNATIONALLY recognised concert pianist Richard Meyrick is to perform a recital of some of the most moving and exciting pieces in the piano repertoire in Stroud this week.

The performance is a warm-up recital for a Wigmore Hall concert which will be taking place later on in January.

The programme includes two spectacular Paganini Etudes by Liszt, Chopin's Polonaise in A flat and Nocturnes OP 15 and OP 27, as well as works by Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.

"Richard Meyrick has also managed to resurrect the fiery, very challenging encores of the late, great pianist Vladimir Horovitz," said concert organiser Christopher Edwards.

"He has spent the last four years recreating them; they were never written down and the first ever public performance of one of these pieces since Horovitz's death will be at the Stroud Subscription Rooms."

Richard Meyrick's extraordinary playing ability has been recognised by the international press and by such acclaimed musicians as Vladimir Ashkenazy.

As well as performing a high profile five-concert recital series at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Meyrick has won accolades throughout North America, Russia, Australia and the UK.

He is also director of The Piano Studio in London, which has been recognised for its innovative work as well as for bringing piano tuition to leading City executives.

The recital takes place at the Stroud Subscription Rooms on Thursday, January 9 at 7.30pm. Tickets, at £8.50, are available from the Subscription Rooms Box Office.
